Nostalgia & Gratitude

Dwell more on the present — on the things we have and take for granted unconsciously.

Before I say anything, I'd like to say thank you. Thank you for being here, listening to me, and writing back. I feel immense gratitude as I write this at my office desk at 10:24 AM on Friday. It's a slow day, so yeah, Happy New Monthhhh!!!!!!!

When the idea of writing monthly emails came, I can't remember what was running through my head. But here we are, four months in! I know it seems too early to celebrate, but let's celebrate our small wins, yes?

Speaking of gratitude, I was very nostalgic in August. It made me realize how we often take the present for granted. There's a saying, "You don't know what you have until you lose it." And it's the truth, sadly. Looking at the past years, when was life so much simpler? All I had to worry about was graduating, getting a boyfriend, parting with my friends, and the style I would give the tailor for my FYB gown. These things seem so insignificant now. But looking back, I was so engrossed in them that I lost sight of what I had at that moment: my friends, who I cherish so much. We are scattered all over the earth's surface now, and trying to keep up with each other's lives is getting tough. Pocket money! Now that I'm financially responsible for myself, I miss the days when that responsibility belonged solely to my parents — and to think that I looked forward to paying my bills. Oh, the foolishness!

Now, I'm grateful for my parents, my siblings, and my friends, believe it or not, my job (it pays the bills), singlehood, and the LC community. This month, I'd like us to dwell more on the present, on the things we have and take for granted unconsciously.

P.S. View this article I find interesting about the subject. Cheers!
